Majestic Bathroom
When I moved into my first home, I was challenged by a tiny dark 1950s bathroom with beige tile and a pink tub. With little space to give up I asked myself, how can I make this room feel bigger and more enjoyable?
By removing all interior barriers and a small outdated linen closet, I was able to give the impression the room was dramatically larger when in fact it grew by only a few inches. A window modernization and the addition of a skylight both brightened the room and better connected it to the outside world.
My influences for the “enjoyable” part were from my travels. I wanted the old-world spa feel of a Japanese bathhouse, the enduring lime plaster walls of a Parisian flat, and of course the everlasting structure of Italian marble walls. The result is a space that changes with the seasons, is alive with plants and an ever-changing sky, and is always a pleasure to spend time in.
